Production of terrazzo
The production of terrazzo tiles is a process that combines centuries-old traditions with the technology of modern factories. In the 1930s, the material was poured into molds on site and the tiles were then finished by hand. However, today's production methods have changed significantly with the advent of modern machinery and specialized factories that ensure even more precise and efficient production.
The process begins with the composition of the terrazzo mixture, a critical step that lays the foundation for the quality of the final tile. The pebbles, which are an essential component of the terrazzo, are carefully selected. These stones can be made of marble, glass, or other materials and are sourced in various shapes and colors to achieve the desired aesthetic. After selecting the right pebbles, they are mixed with other materials such as concrete, marble powder, or other stone fragments. This not only ensures the typical appearance of terrazzo but also the strength and durability of the tiles.
The mixture is then poured into molds that determine the shape of the final tiles. After pouring, the mixture is pressed under high pressure to ensure the pebbles are evenly distributed and the mixture adheres well.
