Production of Spanish tiles

The production of Spanish tiles is a fascinating process that combines centuries-old craft traditions with modern
industrial techniques. Even though not all Spanish tiles are made entirely by hand, great attention is paid to every detail during production. This attention to quality and aesthetics makes Spanish tiles so popular, in both traditional and modern interiors.

The process begins with carefully selected raw materials such as clay and minerals, which are blended to form a strong and durable base. This clay is then pressed or molded into the desired shape, depending on the design. The cookies are placed on a production line, where they undergo a series of steps, each of which contributes to their final appearance and quality.

A key step in this process is the application of the glaze. The tiles move on a rubber conveyor belt through an automated system, passing under a waterfall of glaze. This glaze is evenly distributed over the surface.

The tiles are then placed on drying racks to allow the glaze to harden before firing. Once the glaze has sufficiently hardened, the tiles are transferred to a special kiln. The tiles are moved through the kiln at varying speeds using rollers and sticks. This means some tiles are exposed to the heat longer than others. The result? Subtle color nuances between the tiles, giving each tile a unique appearance. This process ensures that each tile has a unique charm, blending a traditional appearance with modern production techniques.
